Lusofonia Festival

English: Lusofonia Festival, Portuguese: Festival da Lusofonia, Traditional: 屆葡韻嘉年華, Simplified: 届葡韵嘉年华

The Lusofonia Festival is an exciting, family-friendly annual event in Macau.

It’s a celebration of Portuguese culture in all forms: food, drink, song, dance, and handicrafts.

Lusofonia Festival, Macau, 2024 Dates, Portuguese Cultural Exhibitions

The festival’s history is traced back to June 10th, 1998, which is Portuguese National Day. It was established to pay tribute to Macau’s Portuguese-speaking population. Throughout the years, the event has evolved, and it has now become a significant day for sharing Portuguese culture with the Chinese community. It also plays an important role in highlighting the cultural exchange between the two nations, which has contributed to the growth of Macau.

The Lusofania Festival is a thrilling feast for the senses, especially with the multitude of cultural exhibitions and dance performances on this day. Kids can look forward to playing traditional Portuguese games, pony rides, and foosball tables, with authentic local cuisine in abundance. Booths representing various Portuguese-speaking countries will be showcasing an array of goods; aside from Portugal and Macau, these also include Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Goa, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Sao Tome, East Timor, Damao e Diu, and Principe.

The event usually takes place over a weekend in October each year, though dates and venues may change, so be on the lookout for upcoming events. Many shows will occur at Largo do Carmo, Taipa Houses, Taipa Municipal Garden, and other heritage sites around town. Talented artists from abroad will also be present to perform breathtaking shows, so there will be so much to look forward to.

The Lusofonia Festival is a fun-filled celebration of Portuguese culture in Macau.
