The Camoes Garden and Grotto is a wonderful, relaxing sanctuary with gardens and walking paths. It was built in honour of Luis de Camoes, a one-eyed poet who lived from 1524-80. The gardens have a bronze bust statue of him, and the landscaped park has many little areas where you can relax for an hour or two though it tends to attract bird owners, chess players, and even shuttlecock kickers.
The Garden of the Surrounding of Monte Fort has a small park that offers a lovely walk before you get to the Macao Museum. It also has fantastic views of the city.
Visiting Macau parks wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the S. Francisco Garden, the oldest garden in the country. This stunning park is filled with flowers and plants, though its history dates back to 1580 when a convent was once established in the park’s location.
Its Cantonese name actually means “Garden of the Castillians” because Castilian friars from the Franciscan order erected the convent. It features an octagonal Chinese pavilion, a tower built by the Portuguese military in honour of war heroes, and more.
The Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park is a unique destination featuring a Victorian greenhouse, a fantastic aviary, stunning flower gardens, and a forest of trees thoughtfully arranged in Feng Shui style. A notable highlight here is the bronze sculpture Permanent Handshake, resembling the friendship between China and Portugal today.
