The Feast of Immaculate Conception began in 1854 when Pope Pius IX officially declared the dogma of the event, stating that the Virgin Mary conceived Christ without any sin. Even if she delivered baby Jesus biologically, she has been spared by sin because it is believed and accepted that this was only possible through God’s intervention, hence the name of this Catholic event. For these reasons, the Catholic population of Macau have been revering this holiday since its beginnings.
