Macau Light Rapid Transit

English: Macau Light Rapid Transit, Portuguese: Metro Ligeiro de Macau, Traditional: 澳門輕軌系統, Simplified: 澳门轻轨系统

The Macau Light Rapid Transit (Metro Ligeiro de Macao) is an affordable and efficient public transportation system.

In addition, it is also the first train system ever to be built in Macau.

Construction of the railway system began in 2012 to provide commuters and travellers with a reliable and comfortable public transportation option. The Taipa Line opened to the public in 2019, with a route from Ocean Station to the Taipa Ferry Station. There are 11 stations in the 9.3km long line, covering all the primary residential areas, the old village, and tourist landmarks.

The Macau Light Rapid Transit system also connects Taipa to three major ports in Macau. A complete list of the stations in between Ocean Station and Taipa Ferry Station includes the Jockey Club, Stadium, Pai Kok, Cotai West, Lotus Checkpoint, East Asian Games, Cotai East, MUST, and the airport.

The train is operational daily, with service times from Monday through Thursdays at 6:30am to 11:15pm, and up to 11:59pm on weekends and public holidays. The frequency of trains varies from 10 to 15 minutes.

There are different ticket classes available: single journey tickets for up to 3 stations cost just MOP $6, and up to 6 stations for MOP $8. Tickets for up to 10 stations cost MOP $10. A General Electronic Prepaid Card is available, which can be topped up in several areas as well; this is recommended for frequent commuters or travellers as it saves you time from having to purchase a ticket each time you need to ride the train.

Kids under a meter in height can ride free. Seniors and the disabled can also ride the train for free.

The Macau Light Rapid Transit system is a fantastic way to explore Macau.
