The Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt houses an amazing collection of religious relics collected from various periods in time.

It opened in 1996 and is now one of the most important museums dedicated to sacred art.

From the 17^th century onwards, Macau served as a missionary base in the east. Because of this, numerous significant religious activities occurred here.

Many displayed items tell the story of these centuries that shaped the country and its religious activities. Some of the most notable displays here include a copy of a painting done in the 17^th century depicting the death of 26 Japanese Christian martyrs in 1957 Japan. It also houses the tomb of Alessandro Valignano, a Jesuit who helped spread Christianity to Japan, among other endeavours.

The Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt has an area dedicated completely to art of high value collected from different convents and churches around the country. These sacred artworks include religious statues, sacred St. Francis paintings, liturgical vessels, and more.

Beautiful oil paintings like that of the St. Archangel Michael of the 17th century exist. Though the museum is small, visitors only need half an hour or less to view the fascinating exhibits.

After a visit to the museum, you can check out the tourist attractions in the area. Nearby is the Mount Fortress, a beautiful 17th-century fort and a rooftop park where you can take in stunning city views.

Stop by the Tou Tei Temple in Sam Pa Mun, dedicated to the god of the Earth and dates back to the Ming Dynasty. Other notable landmarks in the area include the Fire Services Museum, the Macau Ginza Plaza, and the Camoes Garden.
