Olympic Sports Centre

English: Olympic Sports Centre, Portuguese: Centro Desportivo Olimpico – Estadio, Traditional: 奧林匹克體育中心-運動場, Simplified: 奥林匹克体育中心-运动场

The Olympic Sports Centre (Centro Desportivo Olimpico – Estadio) is the biggest sports complex in Macau, and it also functions as a multi-purpose stadium.

Formerly known as the Estadio Campo Desportivo, the venue opened to the public in 1997 and then reconstructed in 2005 with a focus on remodelling the East and West Stand to make it larger for the 2005 East Asian Games.

Also known as Centro Desportivo Olimpico – Estadio, the facilities boast of a 105 x 68 grass pitch, 900-seat indoor stadium, 8-lane athletic track, long jump area, practising track, hockey centre, and many tennis courts.

It’s most commonly used in football matches, practice, and other athletic sports. With a total area of 35,585 square meters, the stadium is large enough to accommodate large sports competitions, concerts, and other cultural activities.

The Olympic Sports Centre is also home to the Macau football team, the Liga de Elite, where most of their games occur. Through the years, many high-profile football matches have occurred here, including Shezhen vs. Barcelona in 2005, Portugal vs. China in 2002, Shenzhen vs. Manchester United in 2007, and many more.

Other amenities include a table tennis area with five tables, a fitness room, and an aquatic centre.

In addition, this is also where the Macau Olympic Aquatic Centre, a world-class swimming facility, is found. It opened in 2003 and has an area of 3,220 square meters with 1,500 seats. The amenities include a 25 x 25-meter diving pool and a 50-meter pool with ten lanes.

The aquatic facilities are up-to-date with FINA standards, making them suitable for hosting international swimming competitions. They don’t use chlorine to clean their pools; instead, they use a state-of-the-art ozone sanitising system.

The Olympic Sports Centre in Taipa is a must-visit for sports enthusiasts.
