Chapel of St Michael the Archangel, Hours, History, Windows, Macau
The chapel is quiet and tranquil so that you can say a prayer. There is a marble altar by the back wall, with a statue of St. Michael. Outside the church are gorgeous greens and flowers, and you can peek into the cemetery where many colonial officers from the Portuguese era are buried together with their families. In addition, some Chinese families are buried here too.
The Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel is close to other tourist attractions, including the Albergue SCM or the Albergue da Santa Casa de Misericordia. It’s located within the St. Lazarus District, famous for being Macau’s home of creative arts and culture. Here, you’ll find two beautiful Portuguese buildings that are two centuries old within a small courtyard shadowed by two camphor trees. Historically, this was where many refugees sought shelter during World War II, which is why it became known as Shelter of the Poor. Elderly females also lived here at some point.
Today, the Albergue SCM is a hub for the arts, and many art galleries are around the area. Check out the calendar of events because you can catch a poetry reading session, art seminar, or other cultural activities of interest.
The Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel and the nearby attractions make it worth spending some time in this part of Macau.
