The path, also known as the Caminho Antigo de Seac Min Pun de Coloane, is the oldest historic trail on this side of Macau. During the early days, travellers could only go from Coloane to Macau and back through the sea since there were no roads on the island. If they wanted to trade goods or do business with one another, Coloane and Hac-Sa Village residents were forced to travel through the rugged road, making it pivotal for improving the economy in both places. By the 1960s, the first paved road was finally built.

Historically, the Coloane Seac Min Pun Ancient Path is significant because it helped the villagers improve their lives by enabling trade during the last century. It’s also considered an ancient route, though by the turn of the millennium, restoration works were done to preserve it and ensure that the public could use it in the future. By 2000, the new road was reopened. Remember that if you want to visit this trail, it requires you to be of a certain degree of fitness due to its rugged nature.
