The Exhibition Room of Master Lu Bans Woodcraft Works (Sala de Exposição dos Trabalhos de Carpintaria do Mestre Lu Ban) is an incredible gallery in Macau.

This is where you can see the amazing woodworks of Master Lu Ban, a renowned Chinese expert with traditional wood and carpentry.

The museum has been around since 2015, though the Carpenters Guildhall, where it is located was established in 1840. Back then, it was one of the first professional association bases in the country, though it was restored in 2013 and 2014. It now pays tribute to one of the most important artisans in China, Lu Ban, who was responsible for inventing many major tools, including the grappling hook and the saw, back in 450 BC.

The Exhibition Room of Master Lu Bans Woodcraft Works was established as a means to preserve the cultural heritage and handiwork of the master. Some items on display include more than 80 traditional Chinese wooden tools, including ink markers, drills, planes, and saws. Information boards also share helpful knowledge on the story of Lu Ban and his inventions.

The museum also has videos and other multimedia sources on display that share information on how to use the tools he has created. This way, we can better understand how some of our ancestors thought about tools and what inspired them to invent them. The museum is open daily, starting at 10am through 6pm, though it’s closed on Wednesdays. The museum regularly attracts tourists and schools that organise tours to educate children on historical trades and art.
