The Macau Timepiece Museum is a wonderful place to learn how time is told. On the ground floor, exhibits are dedicated to modern creations, and you can view pieces made by independent watch manufacturers and different brands. An intriguing Panerai section also features a frogman diver’s suit.
Meanwhile, in the upstairs area, you can view antique pocket watches, clocks preserved from the Qing and earlier dynasties, and even a repair workshop.
Mr Fong is one of China’s pioneers in watch collecting. He started acquiring his pieces in the 90s, though other collectors have already purchased many in auctions. He is most fascinated by the Panerai watches, which you can see in the museum; the Panerai section alone has more than 60 pieces.
Major highlights are the watches that date back to World War II, pre-Vendome watches, and the Slytech. Aside from his private collection, some pieces on display are owned by other individuals from Greater China, as well as watches and clocks that have been donated.
