Red Market

English: Red Market, Portuguese: Edifício do Mercado Vermelho, Traditional: 紅街市大樓, Simplified: 红街市大楼

The Red Market (Edifício do Mercado Vermelho) is a popular wet market in Macau.

This is one of the best places to shop for freshly caught seafood and produce, some of which has been brought in from mainland China.

Also known as the Edifício do Mercado Vermelho, the three-story building has much to offer anyone who wants to experience local flavours.

On the ground floor, there are dozens of produce vendors; on the second floor, you will find a great variety of fish and seafood. Meanwhile, the third floor is where the butchers and meat vendors are located. Aside from all of that, visitors can also shop for an array of dried goods, flowers, fruits, and perishable products.

The Red Market is a historic building, too. It was built in 1936 and was named after the red brick used in its construction. However, locals and visitors alike frequent this spot because it is renowned for having some of the freshest food available at affordable prices, so it’s no surprise it’s one of Macau’s best markets.

So, if you are looking for ingredients to cook your food at home, this is highly recommended. The area is also surrounded by several shops and restaurants outside.

A few minutes away, you’ll find the Three Lamps District, a popular shopping area. It was given its name because of the large floor lamp here, which has been around since the last century, as well as the presence of three lamps. It’s a wonderful place to shop for local goods and find all kinds of things, from stationery to clothing, toys, shoes, and even more produce. It’s a busy area in Macau, though it’s worth visiting on weekends because of the local markets.

The Red Market is open every day from 7:30am to 7:30pm.
