The house was originally called the Choi Lok Chi Mansion, named after a philanthropist who was well-loved for his notable contributions to society at the time. Today, the mansion doesn’t just function as an art gallery; it also houses a non-profit organisation that is responsible for promoting awareness of the Chinese heritage of Macau through its artworks. Some pieces on display include traditional Chinese artefacts and many others, some dating as far back as the Neolithic period.

The Tai Fung Tong Art House occasionally has a calligrapher on site. It’s a fantastic way to learn about traditional techniques using ink and brush. When visiting, it’s hard not to admire the elegant European architecture of the mansion. It has been well-preserved through the decades, which is why it is among Macau’s top tourist attractions for art and history enthusiasts.

Within the vicinity, there are other fascinating destinations to visit. One is the Macau Story House, an art gallery established in 2012. It’s a unique gallery because of its incredible historic book collection. A reading room inside features old books that are not just Chinese in origin but also Portuguese and English. There are special exhibits that take place occasionally.
