Macau Taxis

Macau taxis are a quick and efficient way to get around.

There are over a thousand taxis in operation day to night, and they are easy to find.

Taxis are usually black or yellow, though they follow the same pricing structure.  For travellers, it’s recommended to have a photo or Chinese wording of your destination name to give to the taxi driver. This is because most taxi drivers can only speak Chinese, though many can understand English. Local maps in Chinese, English, and Portuguese are provided in each cab too.

The price for Macau taxis starts at around 19 Macanese pataca, which increases by 2 Macanese pataca for each succeeding 240 meters. There is also a small fee for keeping your bags in the cab’s trunk.

During rush hour, from 7am to 9am in the mornings and 5pm to 7:30pm in the evenings, the taxi queues are usually longer, just like in any other city. Taxi drivers also typically ask for an extra charge, ranging from 40 to 100 Macanese pataca, in addition to the taxi fare. If you are in a hurry, it’s ideal to call a taxi company to pick you up.

In Macau, it’s standard for taxis to charge extra if you ask the taxis to wait for you. The fare varies, though it’s around 2 Macanese pataca every minute. Extra surcharges apply for travelling long distances, such as from various points in the city to the Macau International Airport or Taipa to Coloane Island.

Since travelling by taxi is affordable and convenient, there is no need to pay extra money to rent a car unless you are on a strict schedule or have meetings to attend.

Macau taxis are a convenient option for transportation for all your sightseeing and travel needs.
