Many tourists do their shopping here since the prices of goods are much cheaper than in other shops, and it’s especially popular among those who are on the hunt for cheap but delicious eats.
The Taipa Flea Market is surrounded by many tourist landmarks worth visiting. One is the Museum of Taipa and Coloane History, housed in a beautiful colonial building constructed in the late 19th century. It’s a fantastic place to learn about history through interesting exhibits. Among the items on display include relics found in Coloane, old handicrafts, photographs, and much more that help visitors learn more about these towns’ agricultural and economic history.
Another nearby landmark is the Auditorio do Carmo, also known as Carmo Hall. This heritage attraction has a distinct green and white facade and a rich history, as it was once the General Electric Bureau for the island. Back then, all of Taipa relied on it to generate electricity. By 2007, it was transformed into a multipurpose venue so visitors can now enjoy a variety of cultural performances, talks, shows, and other recreational events regularly.
With all these attractions in the area, there’s much to see and do for a whole day of sightseeing.
