There are changing themes each year, which allow the organisers to highlight particular challenges and successes while discussing them with global and regional leaders in the travel industry. For example, previous themes have covered regional collaboration, the impact of the growing consumer class on the future of tourism, President Xi Jinping’s Beautiful Life concept, and many more.
The Global Tourism Economy Forum also brings academics, experts, and governments to discuss business and social activities to promote local cultures. Various provinces in China were also discussed during the event, as industry leaders discussed how to promote tourism in these areas.
Event co-organizers include the China Chamber of Tourism, the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Global Tourism Economy Research Centre, and the World Tourism Organization. At the same time, it is hosted by the Macao SAR Government.
The event activities take place over two or three days, with several forums, keynotes, and sessions planned out together with interviews with notable individuals. The venues change each year, though they are usually held in one of the five-star resorts in Macau. These have included Studio City and The Venetian, among many others, in the past, but do check out the calendar of events for the upcoming forums.
This is a valuable learning opportunity for those in the tourism industry; its global reach since its inception has been immense: more than 12,700 have attended, 90 countries represented, and over 600 world-famous speakers have participated.
